My name is Jan Hupkens and I work as a senior policy advisor at the department of Academic Affairs at Maastricht University (UM) in the Netherlands.
I am passionate about education, languages and politics.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from University College Roosevelt (Netherlands), a master’s degree in International Relations from the Central European University (Hungary) and a master’s degree in EU International Relations & Diplomacy Studies from the College of Europe (Belgium).
Prior to joining Maastricht University, I have worked in Croatia, Djibouti, Egypt and Germany in the field of research and policy-making for a variety of public and private institutions (Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Commission and Oxford Business Group, The Adecco Group).
I am currently researching EU crisis decision-making as part of my (part-time) PhD programme at Maastricht University.
I am proficient (working ability) in the following languages: Dutch, French, English, German, Spanish, Arabic, Croatian & in the process of improving my proficiency in Russian and Urdu.
I am married to Lubna and have one son & two daughters, Zayn Noah, Mila Nour & Amal Sophia.
